Seminars on Teachings of Bodhidharma.
June 25th 2024
Tuesday 7 pm - 8:30 pm

We will gather for a series of seminars both in person and online, facilitated by Sensei Shinzan for the year 2024-2025.

We will study and discuss the Teachings of Bodhidharma. A fifth-century Indian monk, Bodhidharma is credited with bringing Zen to China. Although the tradition tracing its ancestry back to him did not flourish until nearly two hundred years after his death, today millions of Zen Buddhists and students of Kung Fu claim him as their spiritual father.

While some view Zen practice as a purification of the mind or a stage on the way to perfect enlightenment, Bodhidharma equated Zen with buddhahood and believed it had a place in everyday life.

A special transmission outside the scriptures,

Not founded upon words and letters.
By pointing directly to [one's] mind,

It lets one see into [one's own true] nature and [thus] attain Buddhahood.
